Nestled along babbling West Chicago Creek and surrounded by pristine National Forest, this “Cabin in the Woods” as part of the Recreational Residence Program offers peaceful solitude, rich history, and rustic charm in an idyllic setting just outside of the gateway to the rockies town of Idaho Springs Colorado

The cabin is being sold fully furnished and move-in ready, complete with a player piano, games, books, and cozy wood burning fireplace comforts for your mountain getaway.

Inside you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen with refrigerator, electric range/oven, antique wood-burning stove and sink with running hot/cold water.
The cabin has 6 overall bunk rooms with 3 on the main level and 3 more upstairs. The bathroom hosts a Sun-Mar Excel composting toilet; sink & shower.
Water is delivered to a pressure tank through an underground pipe from a seasonally installed pump in the adjacent creek. Potable water should be brought to the cabin. Gray water is discharged via piping to a gravel absorption bed in the forest
The loft bunk rooms are all enjoy natural lighting through the generous windows. The unique spiral stairway has a glass cap that casts a beam of light throughout the cabin.
The cabin is a part of the Forest Service Recreational Cabin Program where the land is leased from the federal government usually in 20 year increments and the owner owns the improvements and the rights to access and use the land. The current lease is through 2028 ($1,353/year lease fee + $1,200 transfer fee) when it is expected to renew for the next 20 year increment. Under the program the property is expected to be used a minimum of 15 days/yr. per the lease documentation limited rental use might be available (see nf lease sec 7) please see lease agreement included in supplements for more details. The cabin is strategically situated within the Arapaho National Forest close to the trailhead of an exceptional 8 1/4 mile hike in the Mount Blue Sky Wilderness climbing to a glacial cirque known as Hell’s Hole at the base of Gray Wolf Mountain. Many other outstanding hikes and excursions are nearby such as the Mt. Blue Sky road which is the highest paved road in North America reaching 14,266′; or extensive historic adventures, mining tours, and experiences in or near Idaho Springs, Georgetown, and Evergreen. The cabin is centrally situated within GMU 39 for Elk & Deer.
